Getting Started with ClanGen

ClanGen is a fan-made, text-based simulation game inspired by the Warrior Cats book series. It allows players to create, manage, and grow their own Warrior Cat clan through various generations. With procedurally generated events and customizable options, players experience the life of a clan leader managing cats, relationships, ranks, and survival.

Creating Your Clan

When you first launch ClanGen, you’ll be prompted to create a new clan. You can choose your clan’s name, territory type (forest, marsh, or moor), and initial settings such as difficulty and game speed. Your clan will start with a randomly generated leader, deputy, medicine cat, and a few warriors or apprentices.

Understanding the Game Interface

ClanGen uses a simple, text-and-icon interface with menus for managing your cats, their relationships, and the clan’s status. Events are presented through text updates, and players interact by making decisions on these events.

Cat Profiles and Roles

Each cat has a unique profile with traits like name, age, gender, rank, personality, and relationships. Roles include:

  • Leader: Makes decisions and oversees the clan.

  • Deputy: Second-in-command; may become leader.

  • Medicine Cat: Heals and interprets signs from StarClan.

  • Warriors & Apprentices: Defend and hunt for the clan.

  • Queens & Kits: Raise the next generation.

Managing Clan Life

Each moon (turn), random events occur such as patrols, injuries, births, or omens. Players must interpret and manage these events to ensure their clan thrives.

Patrols and Events

Patrols are a core gameplay mechanic. You assign cats to patrols that explore, hunt, or confront threats. Outcomes depend on the cats’ relationships and stats.

  • Hunting Patrols: Gather food for the clan.

  • Border Patrols: Encounter rogues, loners, or other clans.

  • Herb Patrols: Gather resources for medicine cats.

Maintaining Relationships and Morale

Cats form friendships, rivalries, and even romantic relationships. These dynamics influence how cats behave in events, such as protecting or betraying one another.

Generational Progression

As moons pass, cats age, die, and new kittens are born. You’ll witness the natural evolution of your clan over time, passing leadership down and forging a legacy.
